C-130 8 Wing

Filming over a few weeks with 8 Wing at Canadian Forces Base Trenton, there were many memorable experiences from rotor repairs atop CH-147F Chinook helicopters to tactical flying maneuvers in the C-130s. 8 Wing/CFB Trenton is the hub of Royal Canadian Air Force air mobility operations in Canada, and it was impressive to see these crews in action as they prepared to deliver supplies to the high Arctic and airlifted troops to destinations worldwide. The best part of any day would be the chance to lower the ramp on the C-130 for cargo drops, standing on the ramp edge as trees blur past under your feet at 210 knots! The RCAF also operates the Canadian Mission Control Centre (CMCC) from Trenton, which detects transmissions from emergency locating beacons on aircraft or marine vessels in distress. In addition to the C-130s, 8 Wing also operates several aircraft including the CC-177 Globemaster III, the CH-146 Griffon search and rescue helicopters and the CC-14 Challenger fleet of VIP aircraft used for Canada’s Governor General and the Prime Minister.
