The Lost City of Atlantis
Searching for Atlantis. On the mud flats of Doñana National Park, a vast natural reserve in Andalusia, southern Spain, we searched for the lost city of Atlantis on this National Geographic documentary. NASA satellite photos had revealed a large circular shadow-like impression at Doñana, and I travelled with an international team of archeologists and researchers to investigate. Plato describes Atlantis as an island larger than Libya and Asia Minor put together, located in the Atlantic just beyond the Pillars of Hercules, generally assumed to mean the Strait of Gibraltar. This location at Doñana in southern Spain perfectly fits Plato’s description and although we did find some interesting artifacts, and ground penetrating radar showed something beneath the surface, Atlantis still remains... a mystery.
